The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has honored 21 projects completed by schools, businesses, and community organizations throughout the state with Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence. The projects were evaluated for their environmental protection, innovation, partnership, economic impacts, sustainability, environmental justice, climate change consideration, and outcomes achieved.
The DEP noted that among other accomplishments, the winners had collectively diverted 3 million gallons of stormwater from local waterways, reduced greenhouse gas emissions by over 47,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide, prevented approximately 400,000 pounds of sediment from entering waterways, and served 13 environmental justice communities. Information on the 21 winning projects is available here.
